Banks to open during holidays

Gone were the days when the public are left on their own during long holidays, as far as their finances and banking matters are concern. This time, some banks would be open during the holidays to attend to their clients’ needs.

Banks also assured the public that their automated teller machines (ATMs) would remain operational during the holidays.

With December 24 and 30 declared special non-working days, and December 25, 30 and January 1 being regular holidays, there would be two long weekends for the holidays.

Fortunately, banks like Banco de Oro Unibank, decided to open for the holidays to serve clients. The country’s biggest bank said it will open all its branches on Thursday, December 24. Mall-based branches would be open until 3 p.m. while other branches are open until 1 p.m.

The country’s second largest, Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank), posted an announcement on its website which says that selected branches will be open on December 24, 26, 27, 30, 31 and Jan 1 and 2.

Surprisingly though, the third largest bank in the country, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and its thrift banking subsidiary, BPI Family Savings Bank, will not be open during the declared public holidays. The bank said it will be open to the public and doing business on regular days, Mondays thru Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except on the declared holidays.

The bank however is pushing for its alternative channels of transactions, which are the ATMs, mobile banking, and expressonline internet banking, which available and accessible to the public 24/7.
