RP receives aid from China, Japan and US
At the wake of typhoon Ondoy aftermath, the Philippines received aids from China, Japan and the US.
US donated $100,000 to the Philippines. On Sunday, US gave an initial $50,000 which coursed through the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) of US Agency for International Development (USAID).
On Monday, US Ambassador Kristie Kenney authorized an additional $50,000 in immediate disaster relief assistance, also through the OFDA for USAID.
In her telephone conversation on September 26 to Philippine National Red Cross Chairman and Senator Richard Gordon, the Ambasador said, “Damage cause by this storm is heartbreaking.” She added, “We are working with Philippine authorities to determine what additional assistance we can provide.”
Likewise, China donated $10,000 also for the victims of typhoon Ondoy. Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Liu Jianchao said the donation will be coursed through the Philippine National Red Cross. He called PNRC chairman Senator Gordon to tell him about the donation; the check will be immediately delivered to the PNRC.
The Ambassador also conveyed the sympathy of the Chinese government, who also described the damages caused by the storm as heartbreaking. But he also expressed confidence that the Philippines would soon overcome the natural disaster and that “the social life would be back to normal very soon.”
On the other hand, Japan gives $220,000 worth of goods for Ondoy victims. In response to the request from the Philippine government, Japan will provide emergency relief goods equivalent to about 20 million yen (approximately $220,000) to flood victims.
Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada of Japan sent a letter to Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo, expressing heartfelth sympathy to the losses of many lives and serious damages in the country. He also wished for the speedy alleviation fo the suffering of the affected people as well as for the full restoration of areas affected by the calamity.
He also said, Japan “will spare no effort in providing necessary assistance and cooperation for rehabilitation of affected people and areas.”
Meanwhile, Filipinos all over the country and the world, continue with the effort to raise funds, and deliver help to those affected by the storm.
