Henry Sy is RP’s most richest – Forbes

The Forbes Asia magazine released their latest list of the Philippines’ 40 Richest, and it has mall magnate Henry Sy at the top stop, followed by business tycoon Lucio Tan at second spot and Ayala conglomerate’s chairman emeritus Jaime Zobel de Ayala at third.

Sy’s networth has increased by $700 million from the last Forbes’ list in October 2008. The current list shows him having a networth of $3.8 billion while his last year’s was $3.1 billion. This was attributed to the appreciation of his main holding family, SM Investments, which appreciated by 28% since October.

This is the second straight year that Sy clinched the top spot. At a time, second-placer Tan and third-placer Ayala, was at the top spot too.

The list of the 40 richest this year has a total networth of $16.4 billion, higher than last year’s $14.2 billion. With 25 of all 40 in list posting a higher wealth compared to the previous list released last October 2008, it just might indicate that things are looking brighter in the Philippines.

Presidential aspirant Sen. Manny Villar also made it to the list at no. 9, with a networth of $530 million as reported by Forbes. Villas has interests in real estate, which includes listed home developer Vista Land and Lifescapes.

Spouses Rolando and Rosalinda Hortaleza are among those 9 in the list who were poorer this year. The entrepreneur couple founded personal care products company Splash. They have a combined networth of $39 million, much lower than their $90 million reported last year. They are now at the 39th spot, whereas last year, they were at 27th.
